Unification FAQs

Association Unification

Hilton Head Area Realtors® (HHAR) and Beaufort Jasper County Realtors® (BJCR) have launched a discovery phase for the potential unification of associations. This page will serve as a resource for members as we navigate the future and chart a course of sustainability, strength and success.

FAQs

FAQs will be updated as we work through this process. The latest FAQs will be listed at the top and will be indicated by “NEW”. Answers to each FAQ will include the date it was posted.

Over the past decade, our region has evolved beyond the traditional “north and south of the Broad” divide. Today, our members actively serve clients throughout Beaufort and Jasper counties.

The Executive Committee of each association will conduct interviews with professional consultants experienced in Realtor association consolidations.   Once a consultant is chosen, we will use their expertise to guide us through the process and member engagement. (March 4, 2025)

Thanks to the management of the CEOs and the guidance and oversight of past and present Board leadership, both Associations are financially stable.  While the exact cost is unknown, both Associations are well positioned to cover the costs associated with the unification without raising dues.   (March 4, 2025)

Yes, we are starting with a member survey to gauge the interest of the members, including how they want information and communication.   Our goal is to be as transparent and communicative as possible. (March 4, 2025)

HHAR and BJCR staff will continue as part of the merged organization, bringing together the strength, relationships, and trusted service you have come to rely on.

This is one of the most important points for members to understand: this is not a merger of the MLS.

Lowcountry Regional MLS will continue to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of the unified association with its own distinct governance structure.
Members will continue to have MLS choice, just as they do today. There will be no requirement to join Lowcountry Regional MLS as part of association membership.

If you remember one thing from this portion, remember this: this vote does not force any member or broker into a different MLS.

We heard members clearly: the HHAR contracts matter and the future will remain- Business as Usual.

The HHAR Residential Purchase and Sale Agreement and Residential Lot Agreement are familiar, trusted, and valuable tools for many members. They will be retained moving forward as important member benefits
Preserving these forms reflects a clear commitment to protecting the resources members value most not replacing them
